We would love some volunteers to help in the above committees.  If you would like to volunteer please contact the committee head that you would like to help with.  I am sure they would love the help and it takes volunteers to help keep our guild running smoothly.

October meeting
Bring show -n- tell, especially those Halloween-related even if it was made years ago - we want to see them.    We will be working on Christmas Stockings at this meeting so bring your scissors and a sewing machine and iron if you have one.  We need to have these cut and sewn and ready to give to Sandi for delivery to Deer Park by November 8th. So this meeting is going to be a big push on getting the stockings done.  We will create assembly lines and pump these little stockings out.  There is a job for everyone.

URGENT: Raffle Quilt Update
The drawing is going to be held at our October meeting.  It is urgent that you bring your sold tickets and money with you to the meeting or if you can't make the meeting be sure to get your tickets and money to a member that is going to the meeting.  As of our last meeting we had sold $406.  Our raffle quilt is a very large and wonderful quilt and we hope that it will bring in more money than what we have so far... so SELL, SELL, SELL your tickets and turn them in.  Raffle quilt money helps to pay for many charity projects,  $200 a year goes to the fair winners, batting and supplies for baby quilts and lap robes, fabric for stockings and many other projects... so help raise money for our group by selling your tickets.  If you need more tickets – please contact Ina Hellie or Kimberly Lainson.

Baby Quilts and Lap Robes
Phyllis brought in 33 baby/lap quilts that she had sewn the Cabin Fever labels on.  Ina Hellie took 16 baby quilts to the Colville Pregnancy Crisis Center and 17 lap robes to Long Term Care in Chewelah.  The residents at Long Term Care loved the lap robes and the variety offered were gender specific.  The men loved the ones that were more masculine in colors and the women loved the more feminine fabrics and colors.

There are more baby/lap quilt kits available – your help is greatly appreciated!

Fair Winners
Colville:
Juilana Henry and Destiny Christensen
Hunters:    Jennifer Otto and Katrina Sweat
Valley:         Forrest Saffer and Victoria Hoath

Announcement
Lori Larsen is expecting a new baby!  CONGRATULATIONS Lori!

NEWSLETTER NOTICE:
At the September meeting, we were also looking at the monthly newsletter costs and Terry Husby suggested that if you want a printed copy of the guild newsletter then you need to provide Cleo Miller or Angeline Truskowski (our new newsletter people) with 12 self-addressed stamped envelopes.  All those of you that have an email address can receive your newsletter by email - it will be plain text, no fancy html.  This was voted on and approved by all that attended the last meeting.  Be sure to update Cleo and Angeline with your correct email address to ensure you get your newsletter.  This will start in January 2004, so please be sure to either get your envelopes or email address to Cleo or Angeline on or by the December 2003 meeting.

DUES
The annual dues were due in September - If you have not paid your dues you will not be receiving a newsletter after this one.  Dues help to pay for charity project supplies, fair winner awards, some of the raffle prizes, newsletter costs and other items like magazine subscriptions and books for the library.

Door Prizes
There were door prizes galore!  These were won by: Ina, Eileen, Mary Anne, Evie, Terri H, Phyllis, Sandi, Terry B, and Cleo.  Some of the winners had a challenge to make something out of the fabric they won – and bring the project to show at the October meeting.  Hmmm – I wonder how many of those challenge projects will show up??

Show –n- Tell
If you missed the September meeting, you missed some great show-n-tell items!  Phyllis brought in her table runner, that she made with an iron-on type batting, which she said works great!  Eileen showed off a nice hand-sewn full-size star-pattern quilt top and some hand-pieced blocks that were bought at a yard sale.  Eileen & Darleen held up a large number of blocks they made using the “Stack & Whack” method, using a Dresden plate template, and made out of repeat fabric – this was demonstrated at the 3rd Street Mall.  Kathy A let everyone “oooh” over some blocks her son bought from one of the tribes that live on an island off the coast of Panama – talk about some small stitching!  Carol brought a “Crooked Log Cabin” couch size in plaids, and a casserole carrier (kit from Bobbin Along)

UFO Contest
Wow!  We have some talented people in our guild, and those finished projects were gorgeous!  The drawing winners are:  Terri H - $15 gift certificate to Joanne’s; Cindy M – plastic square rulers; Phyllis F – blue marker & needle holder; Lori L – soft sculpture hanging angel

Charity Grant
Darlene Lancaster gave us a form from the United Way to apply for a grant going towards our charity projects.  Sandi Stillman completed the form and Darlene was going to turn it in.  Our charity projects consist of not only the baby blankets and lap robes but also the Christmas Stockings, various quilts – such as those for Eastern State Hospital and the local fire stations, and prizes at the fair for youth awards.

WORK DAY
At the September meeting we arranged a work day at the carpet shop in Chewelah for September 20th.  We worked on the two twin quilts for Eastern State Hospital and our own projects, and Sandi Stillman taught us how to make the dish towels into those cute little dresses that hang over the handle on your stove or oven.  It was a lot of fun.

UPCOMING Work Day
The next work day is scheduled for October 18th, from 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM. If you would like to attend the work day on October 18th and would like pizza, Phyllis Fitzgerald is collecting $5 from each person for the pizza.  We will have planned projects, such as the Christmas stockings, and you can also bring your own project to work on.  Ina will also be teaching how to make a cute little purse from two fat quarters.  We will have more information on this at the meeting along with the list of supplies you would need for this project.

Snacks and Drinks
We voted on bringing back the snacks and drinks.  A signup sheet was passed around for the October and November meeting.  December is our annual Christmas potluck party, when we will be passing out another sign up sheet for January and February.  Evie Robertson is bringing drinks and cups and Aileen Taylor is bringing snacks.  Phyllis Fitzgerald brought goodies for us to our last meeting.  Thank you!

Quilt Classes
Kathy Timmons will be here on October 16th through either the 27th or 28th.  To sign up for classes or see what classes are available - visit Akers United Drug Store in Chewelah.
